Hey there again NG users!

So, approximately 2 weeks ago, I made this post which went into detail about a game I wanted to make! It was well received by the people it reached however there wasn't many people who responded to it. Instead of updating that post, I decided to make this as a refresher or reminder of it. Hope it sees a new set of eyes!

Without further ado, here's the mock up!:

Here's an extremely rough mock up of a battle system in a game I wanted to make! Most of it was made in Flash CS4. Note that most of what's seen in this video is placeholder, such as the UI and background :)) I go into further depth below:

Within the blue grid, there are the players teammates (I don't have a quirky name for 'em yet so ill just call them teammates). This includes Sumoose (the grey, stone-y character that wobbles), The Searcher (the orange, curvaceous creature with the bindle on his shoulder), and Slippery Sam (the blue guy with the soap on his feet). The soap beneath this character is actually his signature tile status. Not all characters will have such a thing, but this one in particular is special: when Slippery Sam is moved around, he leaves behind the trail of soap. It dissipates after a while, but if you manage to get another ally in such a tile they gain a speed boost and the status "Soapy!". While they do indeed get a significant boost in speed, whenever they get moved on the grid, they will overshoot their mark and slide to the tile over!

In the red grid, there are 2 enemies: Peeping Tom (the paper guy) and Cool S-nake. You'll probably notice that the red grid is larger than the blue grid. This was to emphasize the enemies strength by making them appear larger, and ultimately make bosses look even doper whenever those get made LOL! Also they do not have tile statuses, meaning their just basic characters.

Looking at the bottom UI, It displays 4 options: Fight, Item, Move, or Switch. The first two are self explanatory, but Move allows the player to move around the characters on the field, and Switch allows the player to sub out the characters of the field with benched teammates! Ultimately there are 6 teammates on the player at all times. All of these may change cuz they seem like very basic options, but maybe not?? Idk :/ To the right of that, there are the currently fielded teammates HP. This is super rough as well, as I wanted to display the exact percentage of amount of HP they have as well as their proper names instead of just their icons, and make the general UI much more cleaner, but I ran outta time haha.

That's basically the meat and potatoes of the game! In terms of overworld it'd be a typical rpg overworld but yeah! I'm actually very proud of what I was able to accomplish despite my Huion drawing tablet being fucking shattered into a million pieces, and only using a Wacom table LOL!

I should also probably mention that this game is not intended for any game jams or contests. It's a project that is completely separate from such things, and its probably always gonna be that way :))

As always, if you wanna join in the team (please dude we need all the help we can get!), feel free to DM or reply to this post. I'm looking for animators, artists, musicians, and ESPECIALLY coders fluent in HaxeFlixel or Flash coding. Thanks for checking it out!

Hey there NG users!

My name is OneDude. I'm an 16 y/o artist here on Newgrounds! I know most if not all of you have no clue who I am, but I'm making this post with the intentions of assembling a team! If you don't wanna read the post, the TL;DR is that I wanted to make an RPG that runs here on NG. if you DO wanna help out, give feedback, or something else, reply to this post or DM me. Below are some details!

The Plan:

Its a fairly rough idea, but I'll try my best to explain with no visuals:

I wanted to create an RPG that runs entirely in flash, and right here on Newgrounds. The game will feature typical RPG mechanics (different team members, turn based fighting, etc.), however there are no primary team members that you must use for the whole game. Think of Pokémon, where you have a set number of team members on you at a time but can switch out from a pc to use others. Sounds redundant already, right?

Where the game would stick out from other RPGs would lie in its visual presentation and its focus on strategy. I envision thick black outlines, bright color pallets, and accentuated features on the characters. Its hard to explain correctly without sounding like an out of touch poser, but for reference take a look at some of my art (not a plug, I swear lol).

Its strategic upper hand would be in the form of a grid like battlefield. 3 members are allowed on the 3 x 5 field, and can be moved around either to focus on offense, defense, or avoid an oncoming enemy attack. Some characters also have synergies and skills that benefit other characters and allow them to work in tandem. Other characters might have quirks like taking up 2 spots on the grid or making certain tiles boost status effects. Examples of this can be found in few games like South Park: The Fractured But Whole (kinda), and one other that I'll save for the end since its a big inspiration for this potential project.

Writing wise, it'd probably be a comedic, yet strong story. Plot points tie into big moments throughout the game, starting and ending after boss fights or critical quests. There isn't much I have here yet since I've been focused on the other bits of the game, however I wanted the central theme of the game to be based around the 5 senses, as well as the brain. Idk how to explain a reason for why I did. Moral might be coming to understand yourself through your senses? Its still very, very rough haha.

The Inspiration:

I might sound like a pathetic loser, but the main inspiration for this project is the Yokai Watch franchise. I played the first few mainline games back to back and i never noticed how much serious charm and dedication was packed into every corner of them. Totally underrated. Big ups to Pokémon and (obviously) Earthbound for the inspiration too for laying the groundwork!

Wanna be Crewmates?

So yeah! That's basically all I've got. Of course, I cannot do any of this alone! I've tried coding and making music but I can't get the hang of either lol. I can definitely provide some of the art and assets, though in reality I'll need some help with all 3 aspects and much much more. That's why I'm assembling a team! (NOTE: Sorry, but I can't hire anyone. My money situation is pretty odd as a minor and cant really transfer money that easily, yk? I want this to be a group effort!)

I also need to add, I don't know if this any of this can be accomplished within flash. If the project ever reaches such a large state, we might need to look into other ways of going about this. At the very least I hope a small demo could be produced and put on the site for everyone to play!

What else am I missing? What do I need to factor in? Feel free to add your thoughts in a reply below!

P.S: happy birthday Newgrounds!

I joined Newgrounds about a month and a half ago now, and i gotta say that I love this place so far! The vast amount of content and projects from people all around the world is just so inspiring to see. When I was younger, I always knew of Newgrounds but I never had the confidence to visit the site because to me it seemed too mature, but now that I'm here I see that there's a bit of everything for everyone

I'm gonna stick around here for the foreseeable future. My art could absolutely benefit from this community and reach a wider audience. I really dig this place. And for those who check out my page, thank you :))
